Asbestos training providers receiving accreditation

0

Several training providers are going through the process of becoming accredited by NZQA to deliver asbestos unit standards training, WorkSafe advises.

The health and safety regulator suggests contacting the individual training providers to find out if and when they will begin delivering training to the NZQA standards.asbestos training

Greencap and Te Tai Poutini are organisations that WorkSafe believes are, or will soon be, running training.

However, the regulator suggests you do your own due diligence to ensure that any training is fit for purpose and suitable for your needs.

Training to the Australian unit standards will also be recognised by WorkSafe.

It is possible to undertake training to the Australian standards through the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act.

WorkSafe understands that the following providers may be offering training to the Australian standards:
• Fibresafe
• Safety Management Systems Aotearoa
• Greencap

Once again, WorkSafe suggests that you contact the provider to see if they are able to meet your training needs.

Some providers may be considering offering training without NZQA accreditation.

If you undertake training from one of these providers and they fail to get accredited by 4 April 2018, your training will not be recognised until the provider is accredited.

Do not assume that a training provider will recognise your experience or prior learning.

You must contact your provider and discuss your circumstances with them.

Training is required because you can’t legally work in the asbestos removal industry beyond 4 April 2018, if you choose not to undertake training before this date.

All certificates of competency (CoC) will expire on or before this date.

WorkSafe recommends that you get licenced before your CoC expires, as the regulator requires less information to complete the application process.

The online application is completed in two parts:
• complete the applicant details and submit the form online
• you will then receive an email within two working days with a link to add your nominated supervisors.

Read through the instructions on how to apply online in the applicant guide so you have all the documentation you need.
