The 2017 Hazardous Substances Management Summit is part of the annual Safety 360 event held in Auckland, March 21-22, 2017.
The theme this year is “practical guidance for end-to-end management of hazardous substances”. It examines the handling and best practice management of common and obscure dangerous chemicals.
This specialised summit combines table discussions, case studies and top quality presentations to keep participants in the know with all things related to hazardous substances.
Incorporated is an interactive masterclass “Upskilling your hazardous substances toolbox – strategies for emergency preparedness”.
This segment of the programme features a case study of an emergency response scenario from leading transport firm Mainfreight New Zealand.
Presented by Ken Clarke from Responsible Care New Zealand, the presentation will also discuss site risk assessment and contingency pre-planning, practical tips for management — and staff training that includes creating a proactive situational awareness environment and how to best understand the value of safety data sheets.
There are other case study presentations from Northland Regional Council, AECOM, Meat Industry Association and Hail Environmental.
Companies presenting to summit include Environmental Protection Authority, Genesis Energy, Counties Manukau District Health Board and the New Zealand Institute of Hazardous Substances Management.
There are three other summits at Safety 360: Safety Leaders, Occupational Health and Health & Wellbeing.
Event organiser Conferenz says the presentations go a lot further than simply pointing out the need to comply with the regulations.
“They are designed to ensure participants gain all the insights they need to go above simple compliance to ensure total health and safety practices in the workplace”.
Last year’s event attracted in excess of 400 health and safety professionals and more are expected in 2017.
“Feedback was very positive about the very high calibre of speakers. Safety 360 is a great way to bring together the health and safety community in a professional setting,” Conferenz says.
